United Abortionists

Posted in: News | November 30th, 2009 | No Comments »

Shame.

The United Methodist Church is actively lobbying to government-funded baby killing put in the nationalized healthcare bill.

From the American Spectator:

The Stupak-Pitts’s amendment to the U.S. House version of Obamacare would prevent government health plan coverage for abortion, angering Religious Left agencies like the United Methodist Capitol Hill lobby office.

“Our Christian faith and our Wesleyan heritage compels us to stand with those who struggle for wholeness and peace in their lives and believe that all people should have equal access to comprehensive medical care,” i.e. government-funded abortion, insisted a recent “action alert” from the United Methodist Board of Church and Society.

The United Methodist message to its activists hailed the Speaker Nancy Pelosi-backed legislation in the House as a “major milestone,” even though the church lobby prefers an even more statist “single-payer” system. But the United Methodists lamented that “what should have been a celebratory moment for everyone” had been unpleasantly tarnished by Stupak-Pitts’s “restrictive language” inserted at the “eleventh hour” that “politicized health care and posed the possibility of a tremendous setback for access to comprehensive reproduction health coverage.”

The restrictive language they lament would ban government funding of abortion, i.e. baby killing. That a major “Christian” denomination would forcefully advocate for abortion is truly shameful.

Lord have mercy.

Discovering the Obvious

Posted in: News | November 30th, 2009 | No Comments »

Well, duh…

A CBSNews poll discovered what conservatives have known for a long time, that Rush Limbaugh is the most influential conservative in the nation today.

By a wide margin, Americans consider Rush Limbaugh the nation’s most influential conservative voice.

Those are the results of a poll conducted by “60 Minutes” and Vanity Fair magazine and issued Sunday. The radio host was picked by 26 percent of those who responded, followed by Fox News Channel’s Glenn Beck at 11 percent. Actual politicians – former Vice President Dick Cheney and former vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin – were the choice of 10 percent each.

Swiss Oppose Islamic Hegemony

Posted in: News | November 29th, 2009 | No Comments »

Swiss voters took an important step in stopping the Islamic takeover of Europe by voting to ban the construction of new minarets.

From Reuters:

Switzerland voted to ban the construction of new minarets on Sunday, a surprise result certain to embarrass the neutral government and which the justice minister said could affect Swiss exports and tourism.

The Swiss news agency ATS and other media said about 57.5 percent of voters and all but four of the 26 cantons approved the proposal in the nationwide referendum, which was backed by the right-wing Swiss People’s Party (SVP).

The government and parliament had rejected the initiative as violating the Swiss constitution, freedom of religion and the country’s cherished tradition of tolerance. The government had said a ban could “serve the interests of extremist circles”.

But the government said it would respect the people’s decision and building new minarets would no longer be allowed.

“Muslims in Switzerland are able to practice their religion alone or in community with others and live according to their beliefs just as before,” it said in a statement.

Better that nations of the West ban all mosque until the first non-Muslim religion is allowed to build a house of worship in Saudi Arabia.

Been slacking on the JOTW front, so here’s one shamelessly stolen from Nuke Gingrich blog:

Dear Grim Reaper:

So far this year, you have taken away:

1) My favorite musician, Michael Jackson;

2) My favorite actor, Patrick Swayze;

3) My most beautiful actress, Farrah Fawcett;

Islam = Insanity

Posted in: News,Rants | November 27th, 2009 | No Comments »

So it begins. The shyster lawyers, who represent the jihadis that The Obama wants to try in a U.S. court in New York, are already saying their clients are too nuts to stand trial.

From The Wall Street Journal:

When five defendants are brought before a New York federal judge to face charges for the terror attacks of Sept. 11, 2001, the first question may be whether some of them are competent to stand trial at all.

Military lawyers for Ramzi Binalshibh, an accused organizer of the 9/11 plot, and Mustafa al-Hawsawi, the conspiracy’s alleged paymaster, say their clients have mental disorders that make them unfit for trial, likely caused or exacerbated by years of harsh confinement in Central Intelligence Agency custody.

The issue already has arisen in military-commission proceedings at the military’s detention facility at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba. According to an August ruling by a military judge, prosecutors have made an “apparent concession” that Mr. Binalshibh “suffers from a delusional disorder-persecutory type” disorder. Mr. Binalshibh has been prescribed “a variety of psychotropic medications used to treat schizophrenia and/or bipolar disorder, including Haldol, Abilify, risperidone and Ativan,” according to commission records.

In October 2008, a military medical board reported Mr. Binalshibh may suffer from “severe mental disease” that could “impair his ability to conduct or cooperate intelligently in his defense.”

Ok, so they’re nuts. Too freaking bad.  Just shoot them. Forget about the trial. They’re enemies of the U.S. caught on the field of battle. Shoot ‘em.

We’re going to hear the same line of BS when the feds get around to trying Nidal Hasan, the Fort Hood jihadist. He’s nuts too.

Here’s a news bulletin: EVERY ONE WHO KILLS INNOCENTS IN THE NAME OF A GOD, I.E. ALLAH, IS TOTALLY BATSHIT CRAZY. But, they’re still murderers and should tried, found guilty and killed in the name of justice.

Islam equals insanity.

Secret Service Failure

Posted in: News | November 26th, 2009 | No Comments »

You all know how I feel about The Obama, right?

Still, he is the President of the United States.

And, the U.S. Secret Service is in charge of protecting the President of the United States.

So, how in the hell is this possible?

Michaele and Tareq Salahi didn’t look out of place at Tuesday’s White House state dinner. They were all smiles as they rubbed shoulders with Vice President Joe Biden, White House chief of staff Rahm Emanuel, Washington Mayor Adrian Fenty and CBS News anchor Katie Couric.

No one suspected the Salahis were a couple of brazen party crashers — and wannabe reality TV stars.

The Secret Service is looking into its security procedures after determining that the Virginia couple managed to slip into Tuesday night’s event even though they were not on the guest list, agency spokesman Ed Donovan said.

Again, how is this possible?

President Barack Obama was never in any danger because the Salahis went through the same security screening for weapons as the 300-plus people actually invited to the dinner honoring Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, Donovan said.

Donovan confirmed the identities of the couple. The Washington Post, which first reported on their evening out, said the Salahis were well-known in the Virginia horse-country set and were being considered for the Bravo reality TV show “Real Housewives of D.C.”

So total strangers can wander into the White House and the president was in no danger? Really? What if some Achmed with a C-4 cumberbund saunters into the next state dinner?

Jeez, somebody needs to be fired over this.

A Note About Alice’s Restaurant

Posted in: Politics | November 26th, 2009 | No Comments »

Arlo Guthrie’s funny tale, Alice’s Restaurant is a family tradition at our house. My daughters used to get up Thanksgiving morning to hear it rebroadcast on a local radio station.

The story is basically an anti-war, anti-Vietnam war protest song. Which is fine. Guthrie is a leftist from a long line of leftists, so yea, he’s anti-war. Although, I have to wonder? Who’s pro-war, really?

Guthrie gets out of going off to war because of the “littering” charge.

Now littering to my mind calls to mind tossing a soda can out the car window, or dropping a McDonalds bag on the ground and leaving it there.

In the song, Alice’s friends don’t merely “litter.” They dump a micro-bus full of garbage on the side of the road.

Think about that.

They dumped a van full of garbage over a hillside on the side of the road. Sure there was already trash there, and they figured “one big pile was better than two small piles,” but they still dumped a van load of trash on the side of the road.

What I find humorous is the anti-war humbug moral self-righteousness of Guthrie compared to his and his friends total disregard for the environment. Granted this happened in the ’70s, when people were a lot less concerned about the environment.

But for crying out loud, even us redneck, country yokels knew that throwing garbage on the side of the road was at least impolite, if not downright wrong.

Yea, it happened, still does, but the funny thing is that in all the years since the 1970s the left has been lecturing the rest of us on the proper care and treatment of good old planet Earth, and here you have a bona fide leftist admitting to despoiling the planet.

In all the telling of this story, I don’t think he’s ever addressed that aspect of the tale.

Top 10 Turkey Sins

Posted in: News | November 26th, 2009 | No Comments »

Got a call from Daughter No. 2 yesterday. She’s preparing her first Thankgiving meal for her new hubby and his family and wanted to know how to cook the turkey.

I stumbled across a post outlining the Top 10 Turkey Sins, among which are:

Turkey Sin #1: Roasting a Half-Frozen Bird

If you’re buying a standard bird at the grocery store, take into consideration most of these babies are frozen or “half” frozen. The rule of thumb is: You should start defrosting your bird in the refrigerator about five days in advance—up to seven if it’s a biggie! If you can order one fresh, then great; get your order in at least 2+ weeks ahead at your favorite market or butcher/poultry shop. Remember to get to “know your turkey”–if your going for local and free range it will cook a bit quicker (and need more seasoning) than a traditional “plumped” turkey.

Other turkey booboos include: leaving the bag of giblets inside the bird, not having enough gravy, and under or over cooking the turkey.

Read the rest after the fold. (more…)

Thanksgiving and Economics

Posted in: Economy | November 26th, 2009 | No Comments »

At time when we have Marxists running the White House and an administration and Congress bent on turning the U.S. into a European-styled socialist dystopia, the original Thanksgiving story offers a valuable illustration on the power of the free market to provide for the basic needs of a society.

From The Independent Institute:

Many people believe that after suffering through a severe winter, the Pilgrims’ food shortages were resolved the following spring when the Native Americans taught them to plant corn and a Thanksgiving celebration resulted. In fact, the pilgrims continued to face chronic food shortages for three years until the harvest of 1623. Bad weather or lack of farming knowledge did not cause the pilgrims’ shortages. Bad economic incentives did.

In 1620 Plymouth Plantation was founded with a system of communal property rights. Food and supplies were held in common and then distributed based on equality and need as determined by Plantation officials. People received the same rations whether or not they contributed to producing the food, and residents were forbidden from producing their own food. Governor William Bradford, in his 1647 history, Of Plymouth Plantation, wrote that this system was found to breed much confusion and discontent and retard much employment that would have been to their benefit and comfort. The problem was that young men, that were most able and fit for labour, did repine that they should spend their time and strength to work for other men’s wives and children without any recompense. Because of the poor incentives, little food was produced.

Faced with potential starvation in the spring of 1623, the colony decided to implement a new economic system. Every family was assigned a private parcel of land. They could then keep all they grew for themselves, but now they alone were responsible for feeding themselves. While not a complete private property system, the move away from communal ownership had dramatic results.

This change, Bradford wrote, had very good success, for it made all hands very industrious, so as much more corn was planted than otherwise would have been. Giving people economic incentives changed their behavior. Once the new system of property rights was in place, the women now went willingly into the field, and took their little ones with them to set corn; which before would allege weakness and inability.

Once the Pilgrims in the Plymouth Plantation abandoned their communal economic system and adopted one with greater individual property rights, they never again faced the starvation and food shortages of the first three years. It was only after allowing greater property rights that they could feast without worrying that famine was just around the corner.

Nowhere in the history of the world has socialism been implemented and a nation’s standard of living risen. The socialist’s answer to the failure of his economic system is not to question the system itself, but to blame the citizens and impose even tighter controls on the economy and the citizenry.

That’s why true socialists eventually turn into the Marxists, who understand that freedom is inimical to communism. Marxist understand that raw power exercised by the few over the many is the only way to make socialism/communism work, and even so, it still fails to supply the needs of a  nation.

That’s why all Marxist regimes turn into bloody tyrannies. Socialism runs counter to human nature and free market economices turns man’s selfishness into a productive tool for suppling the needs of society.

Simmering Rage…

Posted in: News,Politics | November 26th, 2009 | No Comments »

The Rasmussen polling company says Republicans have jumped ahead of Democrats by 7 points on a generic ballot.

From Rasmussen Reports:

Republican candidates have extended their lead over Democrats to seven points, their biggest lead since early September, in the latest edition of the Generic Congressional Ballot.

The latest Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey shows that 44% would vote for their district’s Republican congressional candidate while 37% would opt for his or her Democratic opponent.

Support for the Republican party held steady from last week, while support for Democrats dropped slightly. Republicans have held the lead for over four months now. Democrats currently have majority control of both the House and Senate.

Voters not affiliated with either party continue to heavily favor Republicans, 44% to 20%.

The pollster cites concerns over the economy and the prospect of a second stimulus bill for swaying voters toward teh GOP.

Yesterday at work talk turned to politics, which it rarely does. We were sitting around in the break room, about five or six guys. We’re from different backgrounds and ages, but all expressed the same level of disqust with the government.

One fellow said, “they don’t care what we think. We don’t matter at all,” talking about Congress.

What struck me was the bitterness with which this guy, normally a very upbeat and happy, spoke about the government.

Others in the room pretty much echoed the sentiment. One young fellow, who hadn’t hit voting age last November, said he’d never liked The Obama, which was surprising to me, because most folks his age that I’ve talked to like the guy.

As I said politics don’t usually enter into breakroom conversations, we steered that way after some talk about the three Navy Seals that are going to be court martialed for allegedly giving a terrorist a fat lip.

The terrorist in question is the guy who masterminded the attack a few years ago on some non-combat men who were escorting a caterer across down in an Iraqi city. After they killed the Americans, the Iraqis, under this man’s leadership, burned the bodies and then hung them from a bridge. We’ve all seen the gruesome images.

The three Seals captured the bad guy these many years later, and instead of being hailed for bringing the him to justice, are not being hauled before a court martial, by The Obama administration. (Note to the U.S. military: take no prisoners, dead terrorists have no civil rights.)

The discussion of the betrayal of our soldiers tapped a simmering cauldron of rage against this administration and Congress.  There were only a half dozen of us (and your’s truly didn’t join the conversation, but sat there reading a book and listening), but I imagine that sampling of opinion represents a ground swell of pent up anger.

The Obama and Democrats considered last November’s win as a sign that the American people had turned as far left as The Obama’s commie chums. Not so, and hopefully, over the next year the resentment and anger will continue to build and finally burst forth the second Tuesday in November.

On that day we’ll throw them ALL out of office, Democrats, Republicans and Independents.

‘We’ve Had Enough’

Posted in: Politics | November 25th, 2009 | No Comments »

President Ronald Reagan’s speeching accepting the Republican nomination in 1980 could just as well be given today, or hopefully by some strong conservative in 2012.

The economic and national security climate for our nation at the end of four years of President Jimmy Carter is eerily similar to our’s currently after only 10 months of The Obama.

Check out the speech, fast forward to around the 10 minute mark. His comments about energy independence sound a lot like Sarah Palin today. And remember this speech was given three decades ago.
